To apply for a Skilled Migration, Student Work visa or Employer Sponsored visa you need to take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test. The IELTS is a major international language test used to assess English levels for those wishing to study in or migrate to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK or the USA.
IELTS for Skilled Migration
To meet the English requirement for Skilled Migration you need to pass the General IELTS test with a minimum score of 6 out of 9 on each part. If you score 7 or 8 out of 9 on each part of the test you will score additional points in the visa points test.

To apply for a Student visa you need to take the Academic IELTS test. The score you need depends on the education institution. In some cases you can enrol in a packaged course that allows you to study English prior to commencing your main course.
